Men's Tennis Remains Undefeated in AMCC Action
The Penn State Behrend men’s tennis team remains undefeated in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action after a 6-3 win over Mt. Aloysius on Saturday afternoon at Westwood Racquet Club.
ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's tennis team remains undefeated in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action after a 6-3 win over Mt. Aloysius on Saturday afternoon at Westwood Racquet Club.
The Lions (8-6, 3-0 AMCC) won No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to start the match. Yanique Apgar (Pittsburgh, PA) and Brent McFarland (Austinburg, OH/Geneva), both double winners on the day, teamed up to post an 8-2 in the first spot.
Mike Russell (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) and Jeremy Burnheimer (Johnstown, PA/Westmont Hilltop) won the second doubles match 8-2 over Nick Centar and Justin Fleegle.
Apgar, McFarland and Russell also won their singles matches. At No. 1, Apgar blanked Matt Hample, 6-0, 6-0. McFarland, moving up from No. 3 singles to No. 2, tallied a 6-0, 6-1 decision against Centar.
At No. 3 singles, Russell managed a 6-2, 6-4 victory vs. Fleegle. The Mounties earned wins at No. 4 and 5 singles, but Brett Palmer (North East, PA/North East) got the fourth singles win for Behrend on the day at No. 6. He downed Dylan Matta 6-1, 6-0.
The Lions return to action tomorrow at Franciscan. Match begins at 5 p.m.
