Men's Tennis Set For AMCC Championships

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's tennis team will be competing for their seventh Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championship this weekend at Westwood Racquet Club on Saturday and Sunday.

The Lions enter the championship as the No. 2 seed after posting a 5-1 mark in regular-conference play. Behrend's only loss was a 6-3 decision to undefeated and No. 1 seed Franciscan. The Lions will face No. 3 Mt. Aloysius on Saturday in the second semifinal, beginning at approximately 6 p.m. The Barons will take on No. 4 Pitt-Greensburg in the opening semifinal at 3:30 p.m.

The championship match is slated for Sunday, April 17 at 11:30 a.m. The winner will earn the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Behrend is led by freshman Brent McFarland (Austinburg, OH/Geneva), who finished the regular season 6-0 in conference singles action, splitting his time between the No. 3 and No. 4 positions. Sophomore Yanique Apgar (Pittsburgh, PA) went 4-0 at the No. 1 singles spot. In doubles action, freshman Michael Funera (Hermitage, PA/Hickory) and junior Nick Kapty (Monongahela, PA/Ringgold) were a perfect 3-0 at the No. 3 doubles spot.
