Men's Tennis Falls in AMCC Championship to Franciscan

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's tennis team fell to Franciscan 5-0 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championship match on Sunday at Westwood Racquet Club.
The Lions (11-9), who took three sets from the Barons during their regular-season match, were unable to accomplish the same feat to finish runners up. Franciscan becomes the first team in conference history to win four straight championships.
In doubles action, Yanique Apgar (Pittsburgh, PA) and Mike Russell (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) fell to Jarek Sulak and John Gallagher 8-4 at the No. 1 spot. Playing at No. 2 doubles, Brent McFarland (Austinburg, OH/Geneva) and Jeremy Burnheimer (Johnstown, PA/Westmont Hilltop) dropped an 8-0 decision to Zachary Quiza and David Freytag.
The Barons posted an 8-3 win at third doubles for a quick 3-0 lead. Mike Funera (Hermitage, PA/Hickory) and Nick Kapty (Monongahela, PA/Ringgold) fell to Connor Jooste and Richard Watson.
The No. 2 and No. 6 singles were the only matches completed. Russell fell to Sulak 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2, while Brett Palmer (North East, PA/North East) could not get past Richard Watson, 6-1, 6-1.
