Ohio Northern Gets Past Men's Tennis

ERIE, Pa. – The Ohio Northern men's tennis team won two doubles matches and three singles to defeat Penn State Behrend 5-4 in non-conference action on Saturday night at Westwood Racquet Club.

For the Lions (4-3), Brent McFarland (Austinburg, OH/Geneva) and Scott Russell (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) posted a 9-8 (11-9) tiebreaker-set win at No. 2 doubles to cut the lead to 2-1 after the doubles matches.

Yanique Apgar (Pittsburgh, PA) and Russell earned wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, for Behrend to start. Apgar tallied a 6-2, 6-2 decision while Russell pulled out a 6-7, 6-3, 10-2 win.

Brenden Dollard (Pittsburgh, PA/Peters Township) was the final singles winner for Behrend at the No. 4 spot. He posted a 6-3, 6-3 victory but it was not enough to edge Polar Bears.

The Lions return to action on Monday, March 6 against DeSales at Hilton Head, S.C., for spring break.
