HOUGHTON, NY – The Penn State Behrend men's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision to Houghton in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon.
Yanique Apgar (Pittsburgh, PA) and Scott Russell (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) started the match with an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles. The Highlanders won the next two doubles matches 8-2 and 8-3.
Russell went on to win a thrilling No. 2 singles match. He fell 6-3 and then won 6-1 and 10-4 in the tiebreaker. Brenden Dollard (Pittsburgh, PA/Peters Township), the current Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Athlete of the Week, dropped a tiebreaker set at No. 3 singles (6-2, 5-7, 7-10).
The Lions return to action on Saturday against Pitt-Greensburg. Match begins at 3:30 p.m.
