ERIE, Pa. – Penn State Behrend men's tennis junior Yanique Apgar (Pittsburgh, PA) was named the 2017 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Player of the Year, while freshman Scott Russell (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) earned Newcomer of the Year to highlight the All-Conference Team honors.

Apgar and Russell were also chosen to the All-AMCC first team for No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Together they were selected to the second team at No. 1 doubles. Brenden Dollard (Pittsburgh, PA/Peters Township) was a two-time selection, earning second-team accolades at No. 3 singles and then with Brent McFarland (Austinburg, OH/Geneva) at No. 2 doubles.

Jeremy Burnheimer (Johnstown, PA/Westmont Hilltop) and Brett Palmer (North East, PA/North East) were recognized on the second team at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.

Apgar went undefeated in conference play at No. 1 singles with a 5-0 record to earn Player of the Year honors for the second year in a row. He finished with an 11-5 overall singles mark, winning six of the last seven matches. Russell recorded the most wins this season for the Lions in singles action with 14 victories and won seven of his last eight matches. In AMCC action, he tallied a 5-0 mark at the No. 2 spot.

In doubles action, Apgar and Russell tallied an 8-5 record overall and 4-1 mark in conference play.

Dollard collected 12 wins in singles action for the Lions, posting an 8-4 mark in the No. 3 spot. He also got one win at No. 2 and three wins in the fourth position. Dollard and McFarland were named to the second team at No. 2 doubles for posting a 7-5 overall record, including a 4-1 AMCC record.

Burnheimer led Behrend at No. 5 singles, posting a 5-5 record at that spot and then finishing 7-9 overall. He only fell once in conference play for a 4-1 record. Palmer tallied 10 wins in singles action this year, going 6-6 at the No. 6 spot but also earning two wins at No. 3 and at No. 4. He also tallied a 3-1 AMCC mark.
