Men's Tennis Sweeps Waynesburg

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's tennis team picked up their first shut-out victory this season with a 9-0 sweep over Waynesburg in non-conference action at Westwood Racquet Club on Saturday night.

The Lions (2-3) had five players record a pair of wins on the night. Yanique Apgar (Pittsburgh, PA) and Brenden Dollard (Pittsburgh, PA/Peters Township) started with an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles. They also went on to win their singles matches.

Playing truncated singles, Apgar posted an 8-4 decision at the No. 1 spot to go 2-0 on the night. Dollard, competing at No. 3 singles, tallied an 8-2 victory for his second singles win of the season.

Scott Russell (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) and Michael Duckett (Girard, PA/Fairview) teamed up for an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles. Russell then blanked his opponent, 8-0, at No. 2 singles.

At No. 3 doubles, Brent McFarland (Austinburg, OH/Geneva) and Noah Colvin (Warren, PA/Warren) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-2 decision. The two also won their singles matches, posting 8-0 victories at the No. 5 and No. 6 spot, respectively.

Michael Funera (Hermitage, PA/Hickory) registered the final win at No. 4 singles, taking his opponent into extra games with a 9-7 score.

Behrend returns to action on Friday against Westminster at Westwood Racquet Club, beginning at 3 p.m.
