Men's Tennis Tops Lebanon Valley

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – The Penn State Behrend men's tennis team posted a 6-3 decision over Lebanon Valley in non-conference action on Monday over spring break in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
The Lions (3-4) took a 6-0 lead in the match and then surrendered the final three singles matches. Yanique Apgar (Pittsburgh, PA), Scott Russell (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) and Brenden Dollard (Pittsburgh, PA/Peters Township) were all double winners.
Apgar and Russell made it 1-0 with an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles. Dollard and Michael Duckett (Girard, PA/Fairview) then added an 8-2 victory at No. 2 doubles for a 2-0 advantage. Brent McFarland (Austinburg, OH/Geneva) and Noah Colvin (Warren, PA/Warren) helped Behrend sweep the doubles with an 8-6 win at the third spot.
Playing at No. 2 singles, Russell completed his match first at 6-3, 6-1 to put the Lions one match away from winning. Apgar sealed the victory with a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Blake Martin at No. 1 singles.
Dollard won the final point at third singles, defeating Jordan Heavel 6-0, 6-0 to make the match score identical to his scores.
The Flying Dutchmen were able to pick up the last three singles wins for the final margin, 6-3.
Behrend returns to action on tomorrow against Penn State Harrisburg, beginning at 2 p.m.
