Men's Tennis Sweeps Penn State Harrisburg

PORT ROYAL, SC – The Penn State Behrend men's tennis team earned their second straight win over spring break, defeating Penn State Harrisburg 9-0 in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lions (4-4) were able to win every match for the sweep over the Harrisburg Lions. Behrend completed the doubles in top order down. Yanique Apgar (Pittsburgh, PA), Scott Russell (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) started with an 8-2 win, followed by Brenden Dollard (Pittsburgh, PA/Peters Township) and Michael Duckett (Girard, PA/Fairview) with an identical score at No. 2 doubles.

Brent McFarland (Austinburg, OH/Geneva) and Noah Colvin (Warren, PA/Warren) won 8-4 for a 3-0 lead. Apgar held the No. 1 singles spot once again and defeated Ryan McCurdy 6-0, 6-1.

At No. 3 singles, McFarland downed Isaac George 6-1, 6-0 to make it 5-0 in the match. Russell posted a 6-2, 6-3 decision over Paul Banka in the second spot and Colvin managed a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Jonah Melnic for a 7-0 lead.

McFarland and Michael Funera (Hermitage, PA/Hickory) won the final singles matches for Behrend. McFarland defeated Jared Gluck 6-4, 6-0 at fourth singles and Funera earned the last point with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) decision against Austin Stehman at No. 5 singles.

The Lions return to action Thursday against Albion at 12:30 p.m. in South Carolina.
