Behrend Men's Track & Field Finished Fifth at Mason Dixon Conference Championships

The Penn State Behrend track & field teams competed at the Mason Dixon Conference Championships April 30 and May 1 at Salisbury University.  The women finished fourth, and the men fifth, with many Behrend athletes earning all-conference status.  All athletes finishing sixth place or better in the finals of an event are considered all-conference performers.  The Behrend men's team totaled 52.5 points.

Eston Winn (Erie/McDowell) placed first in the pole vault by clearing 15' 7.25" earning ten meet points, tying a Behrend record and hitting a NCAA provisional qualifying mark.  Also earning all-conference status in the pole vault were Mike Stark (Gibsonia/Pine-Richland) who finished third and James Griffith (Murrysville/Franklin Regional) who finished sixth.  Stark finished fifth in the 110 meter hurdles (15.97 seconds), just behind teammate Earl Bass (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) who was fourth (15.89 seconds) as the pair combined for six points in the event.

Ronson Mazany (Ashville, NY/Panama Central) finished third in the long jump with a leap of 22' 11.75" to tie his own school record and hit a NCAA provisional qualifying mark.  The junior jumper also finished fourth in both the triple jump and the high jump, earning 13 total meet points over his three events.

The Behrend throwers stepped up at the conference championships as well, as John Bowman (Clearfield/Clearfield) set a school record in the hammer throw with a mark of 134' 1" which was good for fourth place.  Bowman also placed fourth in the javelin, while John Cerminara (Williamsburg, VA/Jamestown) placed sixth in the shot put hitting a mark of 44' which set a new school record.

Also earning all-conference honors were Justin DiPenti (Warren/Warren) who was fifth in the 1500 meter run, Ryan Frankowski (Gibsonia/Pine-Richland) who was fifth in the 3000 meter steeplechase, and Jordan Telin (North Huntingdon/Norwin) who was sixth in the 400 meter dash.

Next up for the men is the ECAC Championship meet held in Springfield, Massachusetts May 13-14.  The Behrend's men team has athletes who have qualified: Bass, Stark, Winn, Mazany, and Denny Kang (South Park/South Park).
