Records Are Broken at the Lake Erie Invitational

PAINESVILLE, Oh. –The Penn State Behrend  track and field program broke several school records at the Lake Erie Great Sports Invitational, Saturday.

There were four Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament qualifiers. First, Katie Spade, Mandy Wehrle, Jenna Fatica and Liz Keller started the day off by setting a new Behrend record in the women's 4000m distance medley relay and finished with a time of 12:41.18.

Next up, Fatica, Spade and Wehrle teamed up with Victoria Harwood to break another school record in the women's 4x400m event clocking in at 4:09.17.

Fatica capped her day off by clocking in at 2:20.50 in the women's 800m run while Spade broke yet another school record by finishing the women's 600m race in 1:43.95. Fatica's 6th place finish was good enough to earn Behrend its third ECAC bid of the day.

The men, like the women, performed well at the invitational shattering a few school records of their own. Mike Stark finished 5th overall in the 60m hurdles. The senior ran a time of 8.49 and was the final Lion qualifier for the ECAC's.

Carl Kallgren, Dennis Lydon, Shane Cyphert and Cody Bupp crossed the line at 11:02.37 to break Behrend's 4000m distance medley relay record while Chris Henley ran a 1:30.32 to shatter the men's 600m record.

Jumping for the men, school-record holder Ronson Mazany finished 2nd out of 50 athletes in the long jump competition even with facing Div. I, II and III talent (6.59 meters).

The men's and women's track and field team will head to the Mount Union Invitational on Feb. 5, the meet is scheduled to being at 10 a.m.
