Behrend Finishes Second Behind CMU

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's track and field team finished second at the Quad Meet Invitational, Saturday, hosted by Carnegie Mellon.

In a tight completion, the Lions registered 186 points but fell to Carnegie Mellon who racked up 219.

To start the day off, John Bowman and Anthony Mott finished third and fourth in the javelin throw. Bowman hit 51.48m, while Mott's top toss was 50.96.

Several Behrend athletes stood out in the pole vault. Mike Stark placed first to become a NCAA provisional qualifier by clearing 4.75m. Eston Winn (3rd), James Griffith (t-4th) and Denny Kang (t-4th) were also top performers, recording heights of 4.45m and 4.30m, respectively.

Stark then ventured to the track where he led the 4x100 relay team (Jordan Telin, Craig Webb, Eston Winn) to a third place finish, clocking in at 43.91 seconds. The senior's next event was the 110m hurdles. Stark collect his second first-place award by crossing the line at 15.06 seconds. Step-for-step with Stark was Brian Lauff, the freshmen gave everything he had, recording a time of 0:15.27 for second place.

Telin and Webb were also top performers in their respective events. Telin took third in the men's 400m run (0:51.62), while Webb blew through the 100m dash in 11.43 seconds.

Ronson Mazany had another spectacular showing at this week's invite. The senior jumper placed third in the long jump with 6.56m. Mazany then took the high jump event, clearing 6' 0.75" and finished his day by winning the triple jump as well (13.54m).

In the final competition of the day, Shane Cyphert and Cody Bupp hooked up with the hot Telin and Webb to place third in the 4x400 relay.
