Men's Track and Field Finishes First at Kenyon

GAMBIER, Oh. – The Penn State Behrend men's track and field team won the overall title at the Kenyon College Spring Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions finished first out of 14 teams, tallying 117.5 points.

Mitchell Obenrader (Fryburg, PA/North Clarion) won the javelin throw at 55.3 meters. He later qualified for ECAC's with a second-place finish in the shot put competition at 14.27 meters.

Malik Moffett-Pulliam (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep) qualified for ECAC's and broke his own school record in the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.54 seconds. The freshman also qualified with his first-place finish in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.81 seconds.

It was Moffett-Pulliam's second school record in less than a week. He broke the record in the 100 on Wednesday at Carnegie Mellon.

In the 1500 meter run, Josh Natalie (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy-Strong Vincent) finished first (4:03.98 seconds) and Devin Beggs (Franklin, PA/Franklin) was right behind, coming in second (4:04.53). Beggs later finished second in the 800 with a time of 2:01.43.

Kevin Gardner (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) tied for second place in the high jump with a height of 1.93 meters, qualifying for ECAC's.

The 400 meter hurdles saw Andres Morales (Alajuela, Costa Rica/ICS) also qualify, coming in third with at time of 55.81 seconds.

Matthew Grafton (Worthington, PA/Kittanning) also clinched a spot in the ECAC's by posting a second-place finish in the 110 meter hurdles at 15.44 seconds.

In the pole vault, Luke Patten (West Middlesex, PA/West Middlesex) carded a fourth-place finish with a distance of 4.40 meters.

In the relays, the Behrend team of Grafton, Kevin Lai (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood), Patten, and Moffett-Pulliam qualified for ECAC's with a time of 42.19 seconds in the 4x100 event.

In the 4x400, Moffett-Pulliam, Lai, Morales, and Grafton set a new Behrend outdoor record with their second place finish of 3:21.02. That mark also qualifies the group for ECAC's.

The Lions will host the Penn State Behrend Invitational on Saturday, April 26 at 11 a.m.
