Men's Track and Field Wins Behrend Invitational

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's track and field team won the 2014 Penn State Behrend Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions squad finished first overall with 123 points. It was Behrend's fourth victory in their last five meets.

Mitchell Obenrader (Fryburg, PA/North Clarion) shattered the Lions outdoor record in the javelin, easily qualifying for ECAC's with a distance of 63.40 meters. He later won the shot put with a distance of 13.96.

Matt McWilliams (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) was victorious in the 800 meters with a time of 1:57.62. Devin Beggs (Franklin, PA/Franklin) came in second (1:59.24) and Josh Natalie (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy-Strong Vincent) finished third (2:00.64) in the same event.

In the 10,000 meter event, Denis Lydon (Plum, PA/Plum) finished first with a time of 32:17.49, qualifying for ECAC's.

Malik Moffett-Pulliam (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep) won both the 100 and the 200 meter events. The freshman came in at 10.73 in the 100 and 22.27 in the 200, qualifying for ECAC's in both events. He also qualified in the high jump at 2.00 meters.

Luke Patten was runner-up in the 200 at 23.08. Patten later finished first in the long jump competition with a distance of 6.18 meters.

Andres Morales (Alajuela, Costa Rica/ICS) qualified for ECAC's in the 110 meter hurdle event with a time of 15.52 seconds.

The team of Beggs, Phil Martone (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep), Natalie, and McWilliams won the 4x400 meter relay event coming in at 3:40.84.

The Lions will travel to the Grove City Mini Invitational on May 2.
