Lions Set Three School Records at Ohio Wesleyan
The Penn State Behrend track and field team traveled to Ohio Wesleyan University on Monday for the 2014 Ron Althoff Invitational. The meet was the Lions final tune-up before this weekend’s Eastern College Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships.
DELAWARE, Oh. – The Penn State Behrend track and field team traveled to Ohio Wesleyan University on Monday for the 2014 Ron Althoff Invitational. The meet was the Lions final tune-up before this weekend's Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Outdoor Championships.
In the 400 meter dash, Matthew Grafton (Worthington, PA/Kittanning) set a new Behrend outdoor record with a time of 49.47 seconds.
Matt McWilliams (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) broke his own school record in the 800 meter run at 1:54.97. That time was good for a second place finish.
In addition, Malik Moffett-Pulliam (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep) matched his own Behrend outdoor record in the 100 meter dash, finishing third at 10.66 seconds. The freshman later finished sixth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.30 seconds.
Mitchell Obenrader (Fryburg, PA/North Clarion) posted a first-place finish in the javelin throw competition with a distance of 58.20 meters.
The 4x100 meter relay saw Grafton, Kevin Lai (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood), Luke Patten (West Middlesex, PA/West Middlesex), and Moffett-Pulliam post a second-place finishing time of 42.09 seconds. Patten later came in seventh in the pole vault competition (4.46 meters).
Kevin Gardner (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) went 1.92 meters in the high jump, which was good for a fourth-place finish.
The 2014 ECAC Outdoor Championships begin Thursday, May 15 at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY.
