Lions Tied For Ninth After Day One of ECAC Outdoor Championships

TROY, NY – The Penn State Behrend men's track and field team kicked off the 2014 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Outdoor Championships on Thursday afternoon at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's Ned Harkness Field and Track.

The Lions entered this week's championship meet ranked eighth in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA) Mideast Region.

Mitchell Obenrader (Fryburg, PA/North Clarion) earned Behrend eight team points with a second place finish (59.30 meters) in the javelin competition.

In the 100 meter dash preliminaries, Malik Moffett-Pulliam (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep) broke his own Behrend outdoor record, qualifying for tomorrow's finals and winning his heat with a time of 10.61 seconds. The freshman, who came in ranked 11th in the nation in the 100, finished as the top overall qualifier in the event.

The pole vault competition saw Luke Patten (West Middlesex, PA/West Middlesex) finish seventh (4.56 meters) and Luke Aaron (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) (4.41 meters) come in ninth. Patten's finish earned the Lions two team points.

Denis Lydon (Plum, PA/Plum) posted a 17th place finish in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 33:50.87.

Behrend is currently tied for ninth place overall with ten team points. The ECAC Outdoor Championships continue tomorrow, May 16, at 10 a.m.
