Two School Records Broken for Men's Track and Field
The Penn State Behrend men’s track and field team broke two records on Saturday at the Spire North Invitational. Dylan Buffington broke the school record in the mile run and Mitch Obenrader set a new program mark in the shot put.
GENEVA, Oh. – The Penn State Behrend men's track and field team broke two records on Saturday at the Spire North Invitational. Dylan Buffington (Brookville, PA/Brookville) broke the school record in the mile run and Mitchell Obenrader (Fryburg, PA/North Clarion) set a new program mark in the shot put.
Buffington posted a 4:20.72 time eclipsing the previous record by just under three seconds. Obenrader recorded a distance of 14.73m to notch a new school record.
In the high jump competition Kevin Gardner (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) qualified for ECAC's by taking first at the meet with a height of 1.95m.
Levi Varner (Middletown, PA/Middletown) and Luke Patten (West Middlesex, PA/West Middlesex) tied for sixth place in the pole vault posting 4.25m.
Matthew Grafton (Worthington, PA/Kittanning) carded a seventh place finish in the 60m hurdles finishing with a time of 8.96. In the 800 meter run Devin Beggs (Franklin, PA/Franklin) placed 13th out of 50 contestants running a time of 2:01.15. Beggs also finished fifth in the mile run with a time of 4:23.72.
After an impressive showing, the Lions travel to Ithaca next Saturday. Events will start at 10 a.m.
