Grafton Sets New School Mark in the Heptathlon

ITHACA, N.Y. – Matthew Grafton (Worthington, PA/Kittanning) placed sixth in the heptathlon for the Penn State Behrend men's track and field team at the Ithaca Invitational on Sunday. Grafton broke the school record with 3,988 points.

In day two of the Ithaca Invitational two Behrend Lions wrapped up the final three events in the heptathlon.

The first event saw Grafton finish second in the 60 meter hurdles clocking in at 9.05. Jake Wylie, (Grove City, PA/Grove City) who also competed in the heptathlon placed 11th in the 60 meter hurdles.

In the pole vault competition Wylie secured a fifth place finish while Grafton finished 11th. Wylie tallied 3.35m and Grafton posted 2.45m.

The last event was the 1,000 meter run. Grafton won the event with a time 2:54.03. Wylie placed 12th with a time of 3:15.03. Overall Wylie finished the heptathlon in 11th place.

The Lions return to action next Saturday at the Mount Union Invitational.
