Men's Track and Field Notches Three Victories Saturday

TIFFIN, Oh. – Competing at the Tiffin Invitational, the Penn State Behrend men's track and field team notched three victories including the win in the DMR. In total Behrend notched six top five finishes.

Matthew Grafton (Worthington, PA/Kittanning) continued his strong season adding a victory in the 400m dash Saturday. Grafton won the race by over one second tallying a time of 51.12. Teammate Greg Graf (South Park, PA/South Park) took sixth place in the event finishing with a time of 53.17.

Kevin Gardner (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) notched the other victory for the Lions tying for first in the high jump. Gardner boosted for a mark of 2.03m.

The trio of Cody Cornell, (Conneaut Lake, PA/Conneaut Lake) Phil Martone (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) and Aaron Peters (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) provided top ten finishes in the 800m dash. Cornell led the pack with a seventh place finish coming in at 2:08.51. Martone finished on the heels of Conrell in eighth while Peters took 10th place. Martone ran a 2:08.85 and Peters ran a 2:11.69.

Three Lions had solid outing in the pole vault competition. Bobby Monteparte (Jeannette, PA/Hempfield) and Luke Patten (West Middlesex, PA/West Middlesex) both tied for fourth place with 4.15m. Levi Varner (Middletown, PA/Middletown) rounded out the Behrend competitors with 4.00m in seventh place.

Kamonpob Sangthong (Levittown, PA/Pennsburg) added an eighth place finish in the long jump. Sangthong leaped out to 5.30m.

In the triple jump, Ryan Horstman (Butler, PA/Butler) posted 12.10m and a fifth place finish. Mitchell Obenrader (Fryburg, PA/North Clarion) took third place in the shotput posting 15.84m.

After a strong performance at Tiffin the Lions gear up for another Ohio trip next Saturday to the Kenyon Invitational. Events will start at 10 a.m.
