Men's Track and Field Opens Outdoor Season

CALIFORNIA, Pa. - The Penn State Behrend men's track and field team opened the outdoor season Saturday at California University of Pennsylvania. The Lions picked up two victories in the 4x800 relay and the shot put.

The 4x800 relay team consisting of Dylan Buffington, (Brookville, PA/Brookville) Devin Beggs, (Franklin, PA/Franklin) Alan Yocca (Plum, PA/Plum) and Josh Natalie (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy-Strong Vincent) started the outdoor season off with a first place finish running a time of 8:09.12.

Mitchell Obenrader, (Fryburg, PA/North Clarion) last season's javelin throw national champion, started his season off with a victory in the shot put and a second place finish in the javelin throw. He posted marks of 15.63m and 61.39m, respectively.

In the pole vault Luke Patten (West Middlesex, PA/West Middlesex) took third place with a mark of 4.70m while teammates Luke Aaron (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) and Levi Varner (Middletown, PA/Middletown) posted eighth and ninth place finishes. Aaron eclipsed the 4.40m and Varner eclipsed 4.25m.

Joseph Neff (North East, PA/North East) added an eighth place finish in the long jump while Ryan Horstman (Butler, PA/Butler) notched a seventh place finish in the triple jump. Neff leaped for a mark of 6.14m and Horstman put up 12.45m.

Greg Graf (South Park, PA/South Park) posted a ninth place finish running a time of 52.15 in the 400m dash.

The Lion will compete once more next Saturday at the Defiance Invitational. Events will start at 10 a.m.
