Men's Track and Field Travels to Grove City Invitational

GROVE CITY, Pa. – Coming off a victory at the Penn State Behrend Invitational, the Penn State Behrend men's track and field team continued their success with eight victories Friday at the Grove City Invitational.

Mitchell Obenrader (Fryburg, PA/North Clarion) led the squad with two victories taking first in both the discus and javelin throws. Both of Obenrader's tosses qualified for ECAC's. In the discus he posted a mark of 152' 2" and his javelin heave traveled 210' 1".

The 4x100m relay squad produced an ECAC qualifying time of 43.30. The team finished in second place at the event.

The Lions dominated the pole vault led by Luke Patten (West Middlesex, PA/West Middlesex) who tallied an ECAC qualifying mark of 15' 7". Patten took first place and was followed by teammate Luke Aaron (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) in second place. Aaron also qualified for ECAC's. He notched a mark of 14' 3.25".

Matthew Grafton (Worthington, PA/Kittanning) took second place in the 110m hurdles but was able to pick up ECAC qualification with a time of 15.18.

Jacob Parsons (Titusville, PA/Maplewood) and Michael Smolinski (Wexford, PA/North Allegheny) had an impressive showing in the 800m dash. Parsons took first place with a time of 2:04.33 while Smolinski followed in second on the heels of Parsons. Smolinksi finished just .37 second behind Parsons with a time of 2:04.70.

In the 1,500m run, Devin Beggs (Franklin, PA/Franklin) added a first place finish. He sprinted to a time of 4:08.41.

Alan Yocca (Plum, PA/Plum) picked up another victory in the 5,000m run. His first place finish came with a time of 15:56.52.

Behrend athletes went one and two in the 3,000m steeplechase. Tyler Yost (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) won the event for the second straight week. He tallied a time of 10:17.13. Peters notched a second place finish in the event with a time of 10:19.42.

Winners of their last three team-scored events, Behrend will look to continue the trend next Friday at Allegheny. Events will start at 4 p.m.
