Men's Track and Field Posts Four ECAC Qualifications

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Three Penn State Behrend men's track and field team athletes posted ECAC qualifying scores at the Allegheny Invitational Friday afternoon while Dylan Buffington (Brookville, PA/Brookville) set a new school record in the 800m run.

Buffington recorded a time of 1:54.17, eclipsing his own previous record of 1:54.64. The time also qualified for ECAC competition.

Mitchell Obenrader (Fryburg, PA/North Clarion) earned second and seventh place finishes in the javelin and discus throw, respectively. Obenrader's javelin toss traveled 192' 9" while his discus throw went 143' 3. Both throws were good enough to qualify for ECAC's.

Matthew Grafton (Worthington, PA/Kittanning) notched an ECAC qualification in the 110m hurdle. He finished in second place recording a time of 15.29. Grafton also took tenth place in the 200m dash tallying a time of 22.77.

In the 3,000m steeplechase Michael Smolinski (Wexford, PA/North Allegheny) ran a time of 10:08.76. His time was good enough for fourth place.

Ian Griffith (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) added a seventh place finish in the 5,000m run. He finished with a time of 16:57.45.

The Lions have one more invitational remaining on the schedule before post-season competition. Behrend will have a short turnaround traveling to Ohio Wesleyan Monday. Events will begin at 4 p.m.
