McWilliams Breaks Mile Record at Ithaca

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Penn State Behrend men's track and field team traveled to Ithaca for the Boomer Invitational Saturday.

Matt McWilliams (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) and Josh Natalie (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy-Strong Vincent) scored great times in the mile run.

McWilliams took first and set a new school record with a time of 4:19.07, while Natalie finished fifth with an ECAC qualifying time of 4:23.11.

Devin Beggs (Franklin, PA/Franklin) also finished in the Top 10 in the mile. He placed ninth with a time of 4:29.32.

In the 4x400m relay, Dylan Buffington (Brookville, PA/Brookville), Greg Graf (South Park, PA/South Park), Matthew Grafton (Worthington, PA/Kittanning) and Cody Cornell (Conneaut Lake, PA/Conneaut Lake) took seventh with a time of 3:30.26.

Buffington and McWilliams finished second and third in the 800m respectively. Buffington ran a time of 1:58.34 and McWilliams crossed the finish at 1:58.91.

The Lions also had a top finisher in the 60m hurdles. Grafton finished in third with a time of 8.68.

In field events, three Behrend athletes took Top 10 finishes. Mitchell Obenrader (Fryburg, PA/North Clarion) finished second in the shot put with a distance of 15.83m. Kevin Gardner (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) took seventh in the high jump at 1.93m.

Behrend returns to action Saturday at Tiffin University for an 11 a.m. start.
