Men's Track and Field Competes at Brockport

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Penn State Behrend men's track and field team ran at the Brockport Golden Eagle Invitational Saturday for their final meet before the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships.

Cody Cornell (Conneaut Lake, PA/Conneaut Lake) broke a school record in an ECAC qualifying run in the 500m. He ran a time of 1:06.73 and finished third.

Matt McWilliams (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) and Dylan Buffington (Brookville, PA/Brookville) finished one-two in the 800m, both improving on their top times from the season. McWilliams' first-place run posted a 1:55.53 time and Buffington ran a 1:55.70.

The DMR team of Josh Natalie (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy-Strong Vincent), Buffington, Cornell and McWilliams finished second with a time of 10:29.07.

Placing fourth in the 60m hurdles was Joshua Burns (St. Mary's, PA/St. Mary's Area). He posted a time of 8.94, matching his time from last week.

Devin Beggs (Franklin, PA/Franklin) ran a time of 2:35.47 in the 1000m to finish third and Devin Ross (Shenango, PA/Shenango) finished 10th in the 400, running a time of 52.688.

Behind Cornell in the 500m, Shane MacMahon (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) and Greg Graf (South Park, PA/South Park) finished eighth and ninth respectively. MacMahon posted a 1:08.45 and Graf ran a 1:08.69.

The 4x400m relay team of Buffington, Graf, Cornell and MacMahon took home a fourth place finish with a time of 3:32.76 to finish off the track events.

In field, Mitchell Obenrader (Fryburg, PA/North Clarion) finished second in the shot put, throwing a distance of 16.08m (52' 9.25") and Kevin Gardner (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) took third in the high jump. He leaped 1.88m (6' 2").

Three Lions placed in the Top 10 in the long jump. Joseph Neff (North East, PA/North East) took seventh with a 5.86m (19' 2.75"), Ryan Horstman (Butler, PA/Butler) finished next in eighth at 5.70m (18' 8.5") and Michael Cross (Fairview, PA/Fairview) jumped 5.52m (18' 1.5") to take 10th. Horstman also finished seventh in the triple jump with a distance of 12.56m (41' 2.5").

To finish the day, Luke Patten (West Middlesex, PA/West Middlesex) finished fifth in the pole vault, raising a height of 4.50m (14' 9")

The Behrend runners that qualified for ECACs will be back in action March 4 when they compete at the ECAC Championships in Staten Island, NY.
