Men's Track and Field Finishes Third at ECACs

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Penn State Behrend men's track team capped off the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships Saturday with the best ECAC finish in program history. They took third-place, scoring 42.5 points.

Cody Cornell (Conneaut Lake, PA/Conneaut Lake) and Matt McWilliams (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) both broke school records on the men's side Saturday.

Cornell topped his record in the 500m with a 12th-place finish in 1:06.49. McWilliams bettered his mile record by 2.5 seconds, finishing second at a time of 4:16.67.

The 4x800m relay team of Dylan Buffington (Brookville, PA/Brookville), Josh Natalie (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy-Strong Vincent), McWilliams and Cornell also took a second-place finish on the day. The posted a time of 7:51.63, missing the school record by .93 of a second.

Natalie and Buffington also competed in another event. Natalie finished 11th in the mile with a time of 4:20.04, while Buffington took seventh in the 800m, running a time of 1:55.50.

Finally for the Lions, Kevin Gardner (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) earned a fifth-place finish in the high jump, leaping 1.98m.

The Lions will travel to the Coastal Carolina Invitational Friday and Saturday for their next competition.
