Lions Open Day One at Coastal Carolina Invitational

Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The Penn State Behrend men's track and field entered day one of the Coastal Carolina Invitational in Myrtle Beach, SC on Friday against some high level competition.

Joshua Burns (St. Mary's, PA/St. Mary's Area) finished in the highest spot for the men's team. He took home a first place finish in the 400m hurdles with a time of 57.63. Aaron Peters (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) took seventh in the 400m in 1:02.13.

Marcus Haeseler (North East, PA/North East) ran in three events. He finished 12th in the 110m hurdles with a time of 16.86, 19th in the 100m in 11.82 and 24th in the long jump with a distance of 5.47m (17' 11.5").

Mark Malecky (Butler, PA/Butler) and Donovan Owens (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) finished ahead of Haeseler in the long jump, placing 19th and 22 respectively. Malecky jumped 5.64m (18' 6") while Owens leaped 5.54m (18' 2.25").

Victor Kolbin (Westport, CT/Staples) finished 24th in the 1500m with a time of 4:21.92. Luke Patten (West Middlesex, PA/West Middlesex) took 11th in the 200 m in 22.34 while Jacob Marzka (Erie, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) and Dylan Buffington (Brookville, PA/Brookville) finished in 16th and 21st respectively. Marzka finished in 23.79 and Buffington completed the race in 24.06.

The 4x800m relay team of Cody Cornell (Conneaut Lake, PA/Conneaut Lake), Josh Natalie (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy-Strong Vincent), Phil Martone (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) and Buffington placed fourth with a time of 7:58.35.

The 4x200m relay team of Kevin Gardner (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf), Michael Cross (Fairview, PA/Fairview), Devin Ross (Shenango, PA/Shenango) and Patten finished eighth in 1:32.24.

The Lions continue with the Coastal Carolina Invitational tomorrow in the all day event.
