Five Named Outdoor Track & Field All-Region

ERIE, Pa. – Five Penn State Behrend track and field athletes were named 2016 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field All-Region, announced on Monday.

To be named All-Region, an athlete must either be ranked in the top-5 of an individual event in the region according to final TFRRS data or be part of a top-3 relay team.

Mitchell Obenrader (Fryburg, PA/North Clarion) highlighted the honors for the Lions, receiving All-Region accolades in the shot put, discus and javelin. He will be competing in the shot put and javelin at the NCAA DIII Championships this weekend, May 26-28.

From the women's team, Paige Allen (Butler, PA/Butler) earned All-Region honors in the 100m and 200m. She will also be competing in the NCAA Championships in both of those events. Joining Allen on the track at NCAAs is Matt McWilliams (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) who was All-Region in the 1500m.

Luke Patten (West Middlesex, PA/West Middlesex) is the final Lion going to the NCAA Championships and he earned All-Region honors in the pole vault. Although Kevin Gardner (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) was unable to punch a ticket to NCAAs, he earned the All-Region accolade in the high jump to cap off an outstanding career.

Between these five Lions, they have broken a total of 11 school records during this outdoor season as well as the same records multiple times to add to their total.
