Behrend Competes at First Day of ECAC Championships
The Penn State Behrend men’s and women’s track teams competed in day one of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships Friday, hosted by Ithaca College.
ITHACA, NY – The Penn State Behrend men's and women's track teams competed in day one of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships Friday, hosted by Ithaca College.
Mitchell Obenrader (Fryburg, PA/North Clarion) was runner-up in the shot put. He tossed a new school record of 17.13 meters (56'2.5") to grab the second-place finish and an All-ECAC selection.
Matthew Grafton (Worthington, PA/Kittanning), Luke Patten (West Middlesex, PA/West Middlesex), Kurt Eberhardt (Gibsonia, PA/Hampton), and Grant Rodgers (Oil City, PA/Oil City) teamed up to finish third overall in the 4x200 meter race and finish All-ECAC. They clocked in with a Behrend record-breaking time of 1:31.19.
On the women's side, Haley Yenchik (Cecil, PA/Canon McMillan) was part of two All-ECAC finishes. Individually, Yenchik finished fourth in the pole vault with a height of 3.43 meters (11'3"). She then teamed up with Paige Allen (Butler, PA/Butler), Maura Costa (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin), and Ashlyn Carlsson (Butler, PA/Knoch) in the 4x200. The four of them earned eighth place after racing to a 1:48.33 time.
Allen raced in the 60 meter dash, finishing first in the prelims with a time of 7.80 to qualify for the finals tomorrow.
Grafton qualified for the 60 meter hurdles with a personal and school record time of 8.32 seconds.
Behrend will be back in action tomorrow in the final day of the ECAC Championships beginning at 10 a.m.
