Konieczki Wins Long Jump At Regionals; Breaks Own School Record
For the second straight time in about a month span, sophomore Brandon Konieczki (Erie, PA/Harbor Creek) set a new men’s indoor track & field long jump record at the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference Indoor Championships on Friday.
ITHACA, N.Y. – For the second straight time in about a month span, sophomore Brandon Konieczki (Erie, PA/Harbor Creek) set a new men's indoor track & field long jump record at the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference Indoor Championships on Friday.
Key Moments:
* Konieczki was able to get into the finals of the long jump with a distance of 22-5 ¾ on his first attempt
* On his final jump, Konieczki scored a career best 23-6 for first place, breaking his own school record of 23-3 ¼ that he set back on February 8th at Brockport
* In the 60m prelims, Carter Tobin (Irwin, PA/Norwin) finished 16th with a time of 7.02. Tobin was followed by Konieczki (7.03) and Marshall Nock (Aliquippa, PA/Hopewell) (7.04) in 20th and 21st, respectively
* Junior Alex Cotton (Saxonburg, PA/Knoch) made a trip to the podium in the shot put
* Cotton secured a trip to the finals with a mark of 48-5 ½ on his third attempt; he would then earn seventh place with a throw of 48-7 ½
* Ryan Festa (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) (Pole Vault/14-7 ½) and Antonio Faraone (New Castle, PA/Union) (Shot Put/46-5 ½) placed 10th and 18th in their respective events
* As a team, Behrend tallied 11 points on the first day to sit tied for seventh place
