Men's Volleyball Drops Two In Season Opener

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Playing in their first collegiate matches as a varsity sport, the Penn State Behrend Lions men's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Siena Heights and fell 3-1 to hosts Mount St. Joseph's on the first day of the Charlie Wrubezki Tournament on Saturday.

Siena Heights swept the Lions 25-15, 25-20 and 25-19 in the inaugural match, before taking a game from Mt. St. Joseph but eventually falling 25-19, 26-24, 20-25, 25-20. Grant Kocher (McMurray, PA/Peters Township) recorded 25 kills on the day, while Evan Fullerton (Ambridge, PA/Ambridge) dished out 52 assists.

In the opening match, Kocher led with eight kills and Clay Dawson (Saegertown, PA/Saegertown) tallied a team-best 11 digs. Anthony Capizzi  (Pittsburgh, PA/Pittsburgh Central Catholic) made five blocks.

Kocher came back to drill 17 kills against Mt. St. Joseph. Kevin Dyer (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) added 11 digs and seven kills, while Fullerton recorded 32 assists to go with nine digs. Freshman Peter McGowan (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) posted five kills.

Behrend returns to action tomorrow against Missouri Valley. Match time is 1 p.m.
