D'Youville Edges Men's Volleyball in Five Sets

BUFFALO, NY – The Penn State Behrend men's volleyball team faced their first five-set match this season, but lost the battle to D'Youville 3-2 on Wednesday night.

The Spartans (3-4) grabbed the first two games from the Lions (0-7) 25-14 and 26-24, before Behrend returned the favor and won the next two 26-24, 25-22. The final tiebreaker set belonged to D'Youville, 15-10.

Grant Kocher (McMurray, PA/Peters Township) and Evan Fullerton (Ambridge, PA/Ambridge) each had a double-double for the Lions. Kocher led with 13 digs and 12 kills, while Fullerton tallied 25 assists and 11 digs. Sophomore Joey Price (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) tied for the Kocher with 13 digs.

Other statistical leaders include Kevin Dyer (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) with 13 kills and eight digs, and Anthony Capizzi (Pittsburgh, PA/Pittsburgh Central Catholic) recorded 10 kills and five blocks.

Tory Larson (Penn Hills, PA/Homeschooled), Behrend's Athlete of the Week, put down 11 kills and Colin Ingram (Hilliard, OH/Hilliard Darby) joined Fullerton in the setting duties with 17 assists.

The Lions return to action on Saturday in the first UVC Crossover weekend hosted by Stevens. Behrend will face New Paltz at 3 p.m.
