Men's Volleyball Falls to Thiel, Eastern Mennonite

GREENVILLE, Pa. - Evan Fullerton (McMurray, PA/McMurray) recorded 76 assists in two matches, but the Penn State Behrend men's volleyball team fell to Thiel 3-2 and Eastern Mennonite 3-0 on the second day of the Thiel Crossover Tournament on Sunday.

In the first match against the Tomcats, the Lions (1-3) dropped the first set 25-23 and won the second 25-17, before going down a set 25-20. Behrend was able to tie the match once again with a 25-23 win in the fourth set. The Tomcats won by four in the final set to win the match.

Fullerton dished out 55 assists with three aces, while Grant Kocher (McMurray, PA/Peters Township) knocked in a team-best 25 kills. Ty Sheehan (Cochranton, PA/Cochranton) earned 14 kills and five digs for the Lions. 

Nathan Steele (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) registered 13 kills and six digs, and Josh Oertly (Cochranton, PA/Cochranton) made 10 kills.

Eastern Mennonite barely got past Behrend in the second match, winning 25-23, 25-23, 27-25. Sheehan led the way with 10 digs and eight kills. Oertly once again was strong at the net, posting eight kills and five blocks. Kocher contributed seven kills and five blocks, while Fullerton got 21 assists.

The Lions return to action on Wednesday at Elmira. Match begins at 7 p.m.
