Men's Volleyball Wins Third Straight

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's volleyball earned its third consecutive win with a 3-0 decision over Cazenovia in non-conference action on Saturday night.

The Lions (5-6) only gave up 17 points in three games and had a program-best 57.1 hitting percentage on the night for a 25-1, 25-8, 25-8 victory. Josh Oertly (Cochranton, PA/Cochranton) and Eric Theiss (Plum, PA/Plum) each had double-digit kills with no errors.

Oertly led with 12 kills on 14 attacks (.857) and Theiss went 10-for-12 (.833) to lead the accurate offense. Colin Ingram (Hilliard, OH/Hilliard Darby) helped their cause with 26 assists and a career-high eight service aces.

The Wildcats (0-9) got a pair of kills from Stanley McDaniel and David Markes.

Behrend opened up the first set on a 15-0 run behind the serving of Ingram, who added four aces in the spurt. The only point Cazenovia recorded was off a service error. Theiss then took over the serving duties while Oertly knocked in four kills in the final eight points for a 25-1 win, the largest margin of victory for the Lions.

Ingram had another serving stretch in the second set, taking Behrend from 5-all to a 16-5 advantage. From there, the Lions only gave up three more points and won the final five for a two-set lead.

In the third set, the Lions jumped ahead 6-0 before giving up a point on an attack error. The Wildcats would sneak in points here and there but Behrend managed to keep Cazenovia at a distance and closed out the match with kills by Oertly and Derek Polishen (Plum, PA/Plum).

The Lions return to action on Wednesday at Medaille. Match begins at 7 p.m.
