Lions Take Down Keuka, 3-0

ERIE, Pa. – Nathan Steele (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) had a double-double with 14 digs and 12 kills to lead Penn State Behrend men's volleyball team past Keuka 3-0 on day two of the Behrend Invitational Sunday afternoon.

Ty Sheehan (Cochranton, PA/Cochranton) was one kill away from a double-double, posting 10 digs, nine kills, two aces and two assists to help the Lions (13-12) defeat the Storm 25-12, 25-19 and 25-20 to finish the weekend with a 2-1 record.

Ryan Kelly led Keuka (5-15) with 23 assists and six digs. Josh Makin added seven kills and four digs.

Sheehan went 5-for-9 on the attack and served up an ace in the first set as Behrend cruised to a 13-point win.

The Lions were able to take a two-set lead, knocking down 15 kills out of 25 game points in the second. Josh Oertly (Cochranton, PA/Cochranton) led with five kills, including two in the last offensive points scored by Behrend for a 25-19 win.

It was the serving heroics of Tyler Karl (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) in the third set that got the Lions out of a 20-16 deficit in the third game. He served nine straight points to help Behrend rally back and get the five-point victory for the sweep. Steele recorded six of his 12 kills in the third set alone.

Karl and Grant Kocher (McMurray, PA/Peters Township) tied with four blocks apiece, while Evan Fullerton (Ambridge, PA/Ambridge) and Colin Ingram (Hilliard, OH/Hilliard Darby) also tied with 17 assists each.

The Lions return to action Thursday against Medaille. Match begins at 7 p.m.
