ERIE, Pa. – Trevor Barrett recorded 19 kills for a .515 hitting percentage to lead the 12th-ranked Medaille men's volleyball team past Penn State Behrend 3-0 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Thursday night.

The Mavericks were able to get their second win this season over the Lions (13-13) by set scores of 28-26, 25-19 and 25-22. Zack Beattie led with 12 digs to help Medaille defend the aggressive attacks by Behrend, especially from Ty Sheehan (Cochranton, PA/Cochranton) who had a team-best 11 kills and seven digs.

In the decisive first set, the Lions had set point on two occasions and the Mavericks rallied to win the last three out of four points thanks to three kills by Barrett for an early lead.

Medaille jumped out to a five point lead at 15-10 and never looked back to win the second game, 25-19.

The third set was close like the first, with a see-saw battle between the two teams. With the score tied at 19-all, Cody Smith knocked in a pair of kills to give the Mavericks a two-point lead. After the Lions called a timeout, Medaille had two errors to pull Behrend within one.

The Mavericks got help again from Smith and a kill from David Hill closed game three in favor of the visitors, 25-22.

On senior day, Evan Fullerton (Ambridge, PA/Ambridge) handed out 17 assists. Nathan Steele (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) and Grant Kocher (McMurray, PA/Peters Township) each posted seven kills. Kocher also finished with three blocks.
