Seniors Help Lions Defeat Hilbert in Three

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's volleyball team hit a season-best .352 to defeat Hilbert 3-0 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Tuesday night.

Seniors Trenton Munk (Baden, PA/Ambridge) and Luke Vensel (Erie, PA/McDowell) had stellar nights in their last home match, helping the Lions (10-12, 4-3 AMCC) sweep the Hawks (0-19, 0-8 AMCC) 25-15, 25-21 and 25-8. Munk led with 14 kills (.579) and four blocks while Vensel was one dig shy of his career high with 11.

Munk went 6-0-7 in the first set, recording the first two kills and then the final point to give Behrend a 1-0 lead in the match. The Lions started out with a 7-2 lead that gradually got grew into double digits at 22-12 after a kill by Cody Geis (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley). Tyler Fiely (Cambridge Springs, PA/Cambridge Springs) add a kill for the next point and then Munk got the set point at 25-15.

Hilbert put the pressure on in the second set, getting within one point down the stretch on a kill from Kurtis Maloney and another by Tanner Makowski to force a Behrend timeout. After the break, the Hawks had three straight errors to give the Lions a 25-21 victory.

Anthony Sprentz (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) served four consecutive points to start the third set and then closed on an 11-0 run that included five service aces for a 25-8 decision and the match.

Sprentz finished with a match-high 23 assists and career-high seven aces.

The Lions return to action on Saturday at Bard with Vassar. Matches begin at 11 a.m.
