Men's Volleyball Wins Second Straight Over Hiram

ERIE, Pa.  – Dillon Hildebrand (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion) knocked down a match-high 17 kills and added nine digs to lead the Penn State Behrend men's volleyball team past Hiram 3-0 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday.

The Lions (4-4, 2-0 AMCC) earned their second conference win with a sweep of the Terriers (3-6, 0-1 AMCC) 25-23, 25-20 and 25-12. As a team, Behrend had double-digit kills in each set and only had two errors in the third.

Anthony Sprentz (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) handed out 27 assists and Robert McMaster (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) led with a match-high 14 digs.

Hildebrand had half of the Lions kills in the first set, recording seven of the 14 to edge Hiram, 25-23. Down by two at 21-19, Behrend won the next four out of five points all on errors to make it 23-22. Hildebrand made it set point with a kill and Tyler Herrmann (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) sealed the victory with his third kill of the set.

The Terriers were able to grab a 10-7 lead early in the second set. An 11-4 run by the Lions, including two kills by Hildebrand and Herrmann, got Behrend back on top at 18-14. Hildebrand had the final to offensive points for the Lions to get to 24-20 and Behrend went ahead 2-0 in the match off an attack error by Hiram.

The Lions hit .364 as a squad in the third set to halt the Terriers attempt to come back from a two-set deficit. JP Goodsel (Corry, PA/Corry) and Colin Dedert (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum) each recorded a kill in the set. Dedert got the final point on a Josh Mathews (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) assist.

In addition to 27 assists, Sprentz added nine digs and three blocks for Behrend.

The Lions return to action this weekend in the Junker Center for the Behrend Tournament.
