Men's Volleyball Fall to Wells

AURORA, NY – The Wells men's volleyball team had two players tallied double-digit kills in each set and hit .250 as a team to defeat Penn State Behrend 3-0 in non-conference action on Monday evening at the Schwartz Center.

Caden O'Loughlin and Brannon Perdicho each tallied a double-double to give the Express (12-5) at 25-21, 25-23 and 25-12 victory.

The Lions (8-8) got seven digs apiece from Robert McMaster (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) and Tyler Herrmann (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley). Dillon Hildebrand (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion) added seven kills, four digs and three assists.

In the first set where there were eight ties with the final at 21-all, Wells won the final four out of five points for the win. The Express got three kills and took advantage of a service error for the four-point decision.

In the second, Behrend went ahead 15-12 with three attack errors by Wells. The Express won the next six points to regain a three-point lead at 18-15. Another three errors and a kill from Herrmann evened the match at 20-all.

The Express' errors kept the Lions in the game and got them a 23-22 lead, putting Behrend within two points of making it a 1-all match. Wells had luck on its side for the final three points with a kill and then two Behrend errors for a 25-23 win.

The Express only allowed just 12 points in the third set, jumping out to a double-digit lead at 21-11 and winning on an error at 25-12.

Anthony Sprentz (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) recorded nine assists and Josh Mathews (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) added five assists.

The Lions return to action on Thursday, March 15 against D'Youville at 7 p.m.
