ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's volleyball split a pair of non-conference matches to open the 2020 season, defeating Eastern 3-0 then falling in five sets to Elizabethtown on Saturday afternoon.
Match One: Penn State Behrend 3, Eastern 0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-19)
Records: Penn State Behrend (1-0), Eastern (0-2)
Key Moments:
* JP Goodsel (Corry, PA/Corry) tied a career-high with 16 kills on 27 attempts to hit .519 for the match
* Diego Ortiz (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Wesleyan Academy) had a team-best 19 assists and three aces in his first collegiate match
* Jake Albert (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) added 14 assists
* As a team, the Lions tallied 10 blocks, four from Goodsell and four from Cody Schnur
* After winning the first set by three points, the Lions captured the second set behind three kills from Goodsell for the final points to take a 2-0 lead in the match
* Behrend had a nine-point lead in the third and won 25-19 for the season-opening win
