Behrend Men's Volleyball Splits Tri-Match; Lions Defeat Randolph-Macon

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's volleyball team defeated Randolph-Macon in five sets, before falling to No. 8 Wells 3-1 in non-conference tri-match action on Sunday afternoon in the Junker Center.

Match One:
Score: Penn State Behrend 3, Randolph Macon 2 (20-25, 25-17, 25-18, 24-26, 15-11)
Records: Penn State Behrend (3-2), Randolph Macon (2-6)

Key Moments:

* After falling in a close first set, the Lions won back-to-back sets for a 2-1 lead
* Behrend had a five-point advantage in the fourth, but the Yellow Jackets fought back to break a 24-all tie with the final two points to force a fifth set
* John Cageo (Beaver, PA/Lincoln Park Performing Arts) had four kills on six attempts in the decisive set, including the final two offensive points for the win
* JP Goodsel (Corry, PA/Corry) had his second-best attack percentage this season, hitting .419
* Goodsel also posted his first career double-double with 16 kills and 12 digs
* Dillon Hildebrand (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion) earned his second straight double-double
* Hildebrand led the defense with a match-high 18 digs to go with 16 kills
* Goodsell matched his career high from the first match of the season, knocking down 16 kills and adding five digs and two aces
* Adrian Martinez (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Wesleyan Academy) added 16 digs and Diego Ortiz (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Wesleyan Academy) had a season-high 33 assists
* Goodsell was flawless for the first two sets and only committed an error in each of the following sets
* Hildebrand recorded five digs on Randolph Macon's 27 attempts in the fifth set to keep the Lions out front

Score: No. 8 Wells 3, Penn State Behrend 1 (25-21, 22-25, 25-18, 25-21)
Records: No. 8 Wells (10-2), Penn State Behrend (3-3)

* This is the first nationally-ranked opponent Behrend has faced this season
* The Lions won the second set and had a three-point lead in the fourth set, before falling by four
* The Express recorded 62 kills to hit .331 for the match, registering 16 kills in the final three sets
* Hildebrand and Goodsell had double-digit kills once again, posting 13 and 10, respectively
* Hildebrand and Josh Mathews (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) each tallied three service aces
* The Lions had a total of eight team thanks to three block assists from Cody Geis (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley)
* Ortiz finished the day with 56 assists after dishing out 23 against the Express
* Cody Schnur (Butler, PA/Butler) recorded seven kills on 15 attempts  (.467)
