Gannon Too Much for Lions

ERIE, Pa. - The Golden Knights used goals by eight different players to defeat Penn State Behrend 20-11 in men's water polo action on Sunday afternoon.

In a physical battle of cross-town rivals, strong second and third periods powered Gannon to the victory.

The Golden Knights got out to a fast start.  Phil Myrick netted two goals to give Gannon an early 2-0 lead.  Kody Veit (Harleysville, PA/Souderton) came back with a goal of his own to cut the lead in half.  The Lions and Golden Knights would trade goals before Veit knocked home a penalty shot to tie the game up at 3-all.

With a tie game heading into the second period, Gannon began to take control with four straight goals to open the period.  Veit would net another penalty shot for Behrend's loan goal.  With all the momentum, the Golden Knights came out in the third period and outscored the Lions by seven.  Gannon tallied 13 goals in the second and third period compared to just two for Behrend.

Ali Khan (Lake Zurich, IL/Stevenson), Nic Pabich (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest), and Matthew Johnson (Houston, TX/Cypress Falls) would contribute their first goals of the contest in the fourth period as the Lions outscored the Golden Knights by two with the help of Veit adding three more.  Veit would end the match with single game career high of seven goals. Yet, it was too little too late as Gannon was able to secure the victory.

Behrend will be back in the water on Friday as they travel to California for the Claremont Convergance Tournament.
