CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Penn State Behrend men's water polo team lost twice on the first day of the Claremont Convergence Tournament on Friday.  Occidental defeated the Lions 14-4 while Whitter upended Behrend 15-6.

In the opening game, Occidental held the Lions to just four goals.  Behrend had scored in double figures in three of their last five matches.

Ali Khan (Lake Zurich, IL/Stevenson) netted two goals to pace the Lions. Nic Pabich (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) and Matthew Johnson (Houston, TX/Cypress Falls) each contributed with one goal apiece.

In their second contest of the day, the Whittier offense was too much. Wes Atkinson (Camarillo, CA/Rio Mesa) netted a hat trick to lead the Lions.  Khan added two more goals for the day while Pabich scored once.

Behrend will be back in action tomorrow for two matches to conclude the tournament.  The Lions will face Caltech at 12 p.m. and La Verne at 2:40 p.m.
