Behrend ousted at Gary Troyer Convergence

WHITTIER, Ca. – The Penn State Behrend men's water polo team lost twice on Sunday in the Gary Troyer Convergence.  With several California students on the roster, the Lions were familiar with their surroundings but unable to capture a win over the weekend.

In the first contest against Cal Lutheran, Logan McCartny (San Diego, CA/La Jolla) opened the scoring for Behrend with a late first period goal. The Lions, however, would only muster three more goals in the contest, falling 20-4.

Behrend was also buoyed by goals from James Billington (Santa Ynez, CA/Santa Ynez), Justin Vink (Los Angeles, CA/Granada Hills Charter), and Victor Nguyen (San Jose, CA/Evergreen Valley). Nguyen finished the game in net for the Lions, as goalie Ty Elder (Brentwood, CA/Heritage) played defense in the fourth quarter.

In game two, McCartny scored four time but the Lions came up short against CalTech, 9-8.

Trailing by three in the fourth quarter, Behrend twice cut the deficit to one. The Lions were unable, however, to tie the contest thanks to a stout Beaver defense.

Aaron Figurski (Erie, PA/McDowell), Nguyen, Remi Lee (Berkeley, CA/Berkeley), and Alex Chasar (North Whales, PA/North Penn) added first-half goals for the Lions, who trailed 7-6 at the break.

Behrend will battle Salem International on Saturday, October 12 at 1:30 p.m. at the Junker Center.
