Lakers slip past Lions, 11-4

ERIE, Pa. --  Mercyhurst University employed a time-crunching strategy to their advantage and defeated the Penn State Behrend men's water polo team 11-4 in a defensive struggle Saturday night at the Junker Center.

Mercyhurst, ranked 6th in the latest Collegiate Water Polo Association poll, went to work early and often, taking a commanding seven goal lead into the locker room.

After trailing at halftime, though, it was the Lions who instituted a lock-down defense, holding the Lakers to just three goals in the second half.

Alex Chasar (North Whales, PA/North Penn) scored two goals for Behrend and net minder Ty Elder (Brentwood,CA/Heritage) was spectacular in goal despite the losing effort. Elder repeatedly turned away Laker advances, keeping the Lions within striking distance.

Behrend will travel to Cleveland to battle Notre Dame College on  Sunday, October 13, at 1:30 p.m.
