Elder Breaks Career Record for Saves

WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Penn State Behrend men's water polo team dropped a pair of games Saturday at the Division III Championships hosted by Washington and Jefferson. With 20 saves on the day, Ty Elder (Brentwood, CA/Heritgage) broke Nick McGrady's career saves record with a total of 670. Elder also added five steals in the two games.

In the first game of the doubleheader Johns Hopkins defeated Behrend, 17-5. Hopkins jumped out to an early 6-0 lead after the first quarter. Matthew Johnson (Houston, TX/Cypress Falls) got the Lions on the board with 5:50 left to play until halftime.

The offense of Johns Hopkins kept up the pursuit in the second half en route to 17 total goals. Justin Vink (Los Angeles, CA/Granada Hills Charter) provided a spark for Behrend with two goals in the game. Troy Valkusky (Drifton, PA/Hazleton) also added a goal in the defeat.

In game two, Connecticut College edged the Lions, 16-10. Behrend fell behind early and was not able to keep pace. Connecticut college held the advantage at the half by three goals. A five goal third quarter helped propel Connecticut College to the victory.

Justin Vink led the Lions with four goals in the contest and scored six total on the day. Matthew Johnson, Hasan Khan, (Lake Zurich, IL/Stevenson) Carson Williamson (Stockton, CA/Franklin Stagg) and Troy Valkusky all added a goal each.

The Lions will play again tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. against the third team in Bracket B in the fifth place game.
