Lions Clipped by Monmouth

WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Penn State Behrend men's water polo team fell to Monmouth 11-7 Sunday morning in the fifth place game at the Division III Championship.

In a seesaw battle, Monmouth (2-5)  was able to outlast the Lions (2-13). Behrend outscored Monmouth 2-1 in the first quarter thanks to goals by Nick Pabich (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) and Justin Vink (Los Angeles, CA/Granada Hills Charter). Both Pabich and Vink finished with two goals in the contest. Vink was also selected to the second team all-tournament.

Monmouth came back outscoring the Lions 3-2 in the second quarter, sending the teams to half with the score knotted up at four. Monmouth continued their strong play throughout the second half, outscoring Behrend 7-3.

Carson Williamson, (Stockton, CA/Franklin Stagg) Alex Chasar (North Wales, PA/North Penn) and Matthew Johnson (Houston, TX/Cypress Falls) all lifted the Lions with a goal each. Ty Elder (Brentwood, CA/Heritage) chipped in twelve saves and six steals.

Behrend will get a chance at revenge when they host a rematch next Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
