Mercyhust Defeats Lions

ERIE, Pa. - The Penn State Behrend men's water polo team was defeated by Mercyhurst 9-5 Saturday afternoon.  The Lions (2-16) played well defensively and kept themselves in the game, but could not come up with enough on the offensive end to win.

Nick Pabich (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) got Behrend on the board in the first period with his first of two goals on the day. Pabich also scored in the third period, leading the Lions offense in the game.

Mercyhurst (12-10) took a 3-1 lead to the half in the low scoring affair. Justin Vink (Los Angeles, CA/Granada Hills Charter) added a goal in the third period to spark a Behrend comeback. However, Mercyhurst would score four times in the third period and twice more in the fourth to take the victory.

Matthew Johnson (Houston, TX/Cypress Falls) and Carson Williamson (Stockton, CA/Franklin-Stagg) each scored in the final period while Ty Elder (Brentwood, CA/Heritage) contributed 14 saves in the net and snatched four steals.

Behrend travels to Princeton Friday and to take on the Tigers. Time of the game is TBA.
