Lions Defeat Salem, 15-9

PRINCETON, N.J. - In the season finale, Senior Matthew Johnson (Houston, TX/Cypress Falls) scored five goals to lead the Penn State Behrend men's water polo team past Salem 15-9 in the ninth place game of the CWPA Southern Division Championships.

The Lions (4-18) had a huge second quarter outscoring Salem (3-16) 5-1 after falling behind in the first quarter. Both teams scored four third period goals sending the game to the final frame with Behrend leading 11-8. The Lions defense stood strong, allowing only one score in the final quarter to sealed their second straight victory.

Seniors Nick Pabich (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) and Justin Vink (Los Angeles, CA/Granada Hills Charter) scored seven combined goals in their final game suiting up for the Lions. Carson Williamson (Stockton, CA/Franklin-Stagg) and Troy Valkusky (Drifton, PA/Hazleton) added a goal each in the victory.

Ty Elder (Brentwood, CA/Heritage) capped off a solid season with an 11 save effort and also recorded one steal.

The Lions end the season on a two game winning streak and will use the momentum as a springboard into next season.
