Men's Water Polo Drops Nail-Biter to W&J

ERIE, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson men's water polo team took a 16-12 win over the Penn State Behrend men's water polo team Saturday night.

The Lions got on the scoring started when Victor Nguyen (San Jose, CA/Evergreen Valley) scored 33 seconds into the game. The Presidents quickly answered by scoring the game's next three goals. After a Behrend time out, the momentum shifted in the Lion's favor as goals by Grant Garcia (Kingsburg, CA/Kingsburg), Nguyen and Kyle Frerichs (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge)gave Behrend a 4-3 lead.

The game remained close as both teams went back and forth while the Lions kept their deficit to two halfway through the second quarter. Washington & Jefferson scored two more goals to close out the first half and take a 10-6 lead.

The Lions controlled the third quarter. Troy Valkusky (Drifton, PA/Hazleton) scored the quarter's only two goals, cutting the Presidents' lead to two.

The fourth quarter started in Behrend's favor when they scored two goals in just over a minute to tie the game at 10. The Lions and Washington & Jefferson traded goals for the first five minutes of the quarter until the Presidents scored the game's final three goals to clinch the victory.

Behrend return to action tomorrow morning when they take on Salem at 11:30 a.m.
