Lions Fall To Tigers 21-16

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's water polo team dropped its second game of the weekend after losing to Salem 21-16 Sunday morning.

The Lions (0-7) scored a season-high 16 goals, but it was not enough to overcome the Tiger's (2-4) offensive fire power led by a seven goal performance from Mike Roake. Ty Elder (Brentwood, CA/Heritage) and Cameron Makin (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) each scored four times for Behrend to lead the team in goals.

The Lions notched the first goal of the game before giving up three of the next four goals to trail 4-2. The tides turned quickly in Behrend's favor to go on a three-goal streak. After a steal by Kyle Frerichs (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge), he took the ball uncontested and scored to give the Lions a 5-4 lead.

Salem took over the second quarter and outscored Behrend 7-1. A back and forth third quarter kept the Lions in the game and they were able to make it a 17-12 contest. Makin and Troy Valkusky (Drifton, PA/Hazleton) each tallied two goals in the quarter to help cut the Tiger's lead by one from the second quarter.

Behrend was unable to cut Salem's lead any further during the fourth quarter despite a strong push in the final minutes to continue to draw the score closer.

The Lions are back in action when they travel to Cal Lutheran for an 8 p.m. start on October 1.
